Before they provide a list of don’ts, do’s, drugs, and surgeries, they provide a list of common occurrences they think cause heart palpitations. Since many people deal with these occurrences every day and don’t have heart palpitations, there is probably something(s) that is being overlooked…

What causes palpitations?
There are numerous causes for palpitations, ranging from stress to medications to heart disease. The National Institutes of Health has a long list of some of the common reasons palpitations develop:

  • Exercise

  • Anxiety, stress, or fear

  • Fever

  • Caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, diet pills

  • Overactive thyroid

  • Anemia

  • Hyperventilation

  • Low levels of oxygen in your blood

  • Medications, such as thyroid pills, asthma drugs, and beta blockers for high blood pressure or heart disease

  • Mitral valve prolapse

  • Diseases of the heart muscle, valves, or coronary arteries

  • Perimenopause.
